Judge Stacey Jernigan was appointed to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division, on May 12, 2006. She earned her B.B.A., magna cum laude from Southern Methodist University in 1986 and her  J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law in 1989.

Judge Jernigan practiced law for 17 years in the Business Reorganization and Bankruptcy Practice Group of the international law firm of Haynes and Boone, LLP (Dallas, Texas office), 1989-2006 as an associate, partner, and head of the bankruptcy practice group.   Judge Jernigan represented mostly debtors, committees, and purchasers in large, complex Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court workouts.
