Carly Hewett

Carly grew up in Austin, Texas, and is a founding partner of Childers, Hewett, Myers & Slagle, PLLC.  After earning both a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Finance degree from Texas A&M University in College Station, Carly moved back to Austin and worked for Ernst & Young LLP as an external auditor, focusing on real estate.  While she is not currently practicing accounting, she is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas.  After 3 years in public accounting, Carly moved to Dallas to attend law school at SMU Dedman School of Law where she focused her studies on oil and gas.  During law school she served as an Associate Managing Editor on the SMU International Law Review Association.

Carly has been practicing oil, gas, and energy law her entire legal career, and primarily represents oil and gas companies in their exploration and production operations, with an emphasis on title examination and transactional matters.  She has extensive experience drafting curative instruments, assignments and other conveyancing documents, joint operating agreements, and farmout agreements.  Carly has advised clients during the acquisition and divestiture process of surface, mineral, and leasehold interests, and has drafted various instruments related to the settlement of such matters.  Her experience in the energy industry also includes matters related to surface use, including drafting surface use agreements, conducting due diligence for pipeline projects, and drafting easements.  She has also assisted clients in conducting probate procedures in both Texas and New Mexico.
