Judge Roberto Cañas presides over Dallas County Criminal Court No. 10, which handles only domestic violence cases. His court is a U.S. Department of Justice Domestic Violence Mentor Court because it exhibits best practices and serves as a model for other courts to follow. Judge Cañas serves on the City of Dallas Domestic Violence Executive Task Force, regularly trains other judges on DV issues, and has worked to improve the legal system’s response to DV. He was awarded the 2013 Champion of Human Rights Award from Mosaic Family Services and the 2009 Make A Difference Award from New Beginning Center.

David Chapin is a Senior Managing Consultant for IBM’s global Security Practice. Based out of Austin, Texas USA, David’s specialty is security processes and governance as well as the technical side of privacy compliance. He has worked as a security and privacy consultant at IBM for 12 years. Prior to that, he owned and ran a HIPAA privacy and security consulting company and has more than 20 years experience in the security profession. He is the holder of 4 patents, one of which was issued recently regarding a new Data Privacy Engine he developed at IBM. David is a CIPP/US, a CISSP, CISA, and a CISM and he holds a Master’s of Science degree at Lehigh University. He is the author of over a dozen journal articles on security and privacy and has worked extensively on health data issues in the US, particularly with several well-known insurance companies, health care providers, and pharmaceutical companies.

Hershel Chapin has practiced law at the intersection of state and federal court litigation and bankruptcy since 2010.  Early in his career, he worked alongside esteemed legal heavyweights Bankruptcy Judge Phillips (formerly of Middle District of LA) and Bankruptcy Judge Hale (currently of Northern District of Texas).  He is proud to be active in the Dallas Bar Association, has authored numerous Dallas Bar Headnotes articles, and he currently is Chair of the Ethics Committee. 

He has managed his law firm for 5 years.  Other accolades include: he has been a member in the Honorable John C. Ford American Inn of Court since 2013, a member of the State Bar of Texas College of Law since 2014, and a member of the Pro Bono College of Texas since 2010.  He has been named as a 2018 D Magazine "Best Lawyer Under 40."  He currently handles all types of civil cases including collections law, consumer law, construction, real estate, fraudulent transfers, appeals, bankruptcy law, securities regulations, and small capitalizations and transactions.

Judge Stacey Jernigan was appointed to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division, on May 12, 2006. She earned her B.B.A., magna cum laude from Southern Methodist University in 1986 and her  J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law in 1989.

Judge Jernigan practiced law for 17 years in the Business Reorganization and Bankruptcy Practice Group of the international law firm of Haynes and Boone, LLP (Dallas, Texas office), 1989-2006 as an associate, partner, and head of the bankruptcy practice group.   Judge Jernigan represented mostly debtors, committees, and purchasers in large, complex Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court workouts.

Nicole LeBoeuf is a civil trial lawyer with active experience in both state and federal courts, as well as arbitration. She is also an arbitrator with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Nicole regularly represents Dallas law firms and individual attorneys in a variety of matters. She has extensive experience in the representation of business owners and companies in complex and multi-party lawsuits concerning such matters as employment discrimination, deceptive trade practices, breach of contract, fraud, defamation, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, conspiracy and other business-related claims. Nicole especially enjoys trying cases to juries.

Kate Morris is a privacy and technology lawyer at Strasburger & Price. She is co-chair of Strasburger’s Privacy, Data and Cybersecurity practice, and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Kate also serves as a Director on the Dallas Bar Association Board of Directors and a Director-At-Large on the Dallas Women Lawyers Association Board of Directors
 

Mr. Madrid is a litigator with decades of experience representing banks, real estate developers, trustees and executors, majority and minority shareholders, directors and officers and small business owners in a wide variety of commercial disputes in federal and state courts throughout the United States. He has worked extensively in the pharmaceutical, financial, real estate, health care, environmental and corporate worlds and industries. Over his long career, he has had extensive experience in all stages of litigation, including both trial and appellate, as well as litigation in administrative settings and all types of alternative dispute resolution.

Mr. Madrid joins Dorsey from Winstead PC where he was a shareholder in the Dallas office and served as Co-Chair of the Fiduciary Litigation practice and previously served as head of the Litigation Section, a member of that firm’s Management and Compensation Committees, as well as head of its Litigation and Dispute Department.

He has a B.A. degree from Texas Western College, a J.D. degree from the University of Texas School of Law and an M.L.A. degree from Southern Methodist University.

Frederick C. Moss, Associate Professor in the Dedman School of Law, received his A.B. degree from Georgetown University, his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and his LL.M. from Harvard Law School. Before joining the faculty at the Dedman School of Law in 1978, he was an assistant U.S. attorney. At the SMU law school, Professor Moss has taught professional ethics, criminal law, evidence and trial advocacy, as well as constitutional and Texas criminal procedure. He also has served the law school as director of the Lawyering Program and associate dean for Lawyering Skills and Clinical Education. Outside the law school, he has served as chair of the Dallas Bar Association's Ethics Committee and as an examiner for the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for 15 years. In the latter capacity, he wrote the evidence portion of the personal injury and civil trial law examinations. Professor Moss has lectured and written in the areas of evidence and professional ethics. In addition, he has served the National Institute for Trial Advocacy as director of its Southern Regional Basic Trial Skills Program and currently serves as director of the Institute's Southern Deposition Program. He retires as Professor Emeritus of Law.
